Fundraising
We also work with several charities on a regular basis. In our Cambridge offices, our staff nominate and vote for a chosen charity that we work with in a longer-term partnership. Staff fundraising for charities at work can often also claim matched funding from the Press.
Fundraising projects
Nominated charity (UK)
Staff nominate educational charities for help, and in 2011-2012 over £50,000 was made available through this route. Our principal nominated charity, Romsey Mill, works locally to overcome disadvantage and promote social inclusion for young people, children and families.
Fundraising (China and South East Asia)
Our staff were moved by the natural disasters in China and South East Asia in 2008 and staff around the world devoted their time and ingenuity to raise money to create new schools in disaster-hit areas.
A total of 81,000 USD was raised for our China/Myanmar appeal through staff fund-raising, which was then matched by funding from the Press. In Myanmar, a new school was built entirely from our donations for the Htaw Pon Nar community in the Western Ayeyarwaddy Delta. In China, funds have gone to build a Cambridge University Press Hope Primary School in Sichuan Province where the earthquake occurred.
‘Give As You Earn’ (UK)
Charities may also be supported by staff signing up to the ‘Give As You Earn’ facility. The total given by staff to various charities in 2011-2012 through Give As You Earn amounted to £13,472.
