Charity volunteering
Staff may volunteer their skills to help a charity, in areas including editing, marketing, design, communications, IT, HR, finance and legal.
Volunteer Hours Scheme (UK)

Through the 'Volunteer Hours Scheme' staff in Cambridge give their time to diverse community projects for schools, charities and community groups. The scheme began in 2008 and since then staff have given thousands of hours to volunteering.
In 2011 the volunteer programme in Cambridge involved almost a quarter of the UK workforce, who gave more than 1300 hours to local schools and environmental programmes.
In 2009 Cambridge University Press won the Business in the Community 'Business Team Volunteering Award' for the East of England, and in 2012 Business in the Community 'Highly Commended' Cambridge University Press in the 'Employee Volunteering Team of the Year' Award.
School visits
As an employer, the Press is in a position to give school children an insight into the world of work. We do this in a number of ways, including encouraging staff to visit schools to give talks and practical workshops on their areas of expertise.
Work experience (UK)
We also offer a work experience week to local school children every year, usually through their schools, and occasionally on an individual basis, and our staff volunteer their time to look after the students to show them how publishing works. In 2011 we were awarded a national 'Big Tick' by Business in the Community for our 2010 'Work Inspiration' programme, which had involved local children from seven schools working in eighteen departments at the Press as part of their work experience.
