Africa

Cambridge University Press in Africa provides educational materials to thousands of learners in sub-Saharan Africa, and our aim is to develop affordable and high quality educational products.

Educational texts and courses are tailored to eight local curriculums around Africa, and around 200 new school titles are published every year from our Branch Head Office in Cape Town.

We have published around 3,500 titles by African authors since the establishment of the Branch in 1995. Some of our most recognised series include Study and Master, The Little Library, Rainbow Reading, Stay Tuned and Keys to Learning.

In South Africa, we publish in all 11 official languages, as well as ‘mother-tongue' (main language) publishing for countries across the continent, producing titles in over 34 African languages in collaboration with agents in each country.

The CIDA Empowerment Fund (CEF) owns a 25.1% stake in our South African operation, and their objective is to secure quality education to economically and socially disadvantaged black South Africans.

The African Branch is also involved in several other corporate social investment initiatives within Africa, including partnerships with organisations such as Rally to Read, who provide educational resources to rural schools.
